OTHER NOTABLE ANCESTORS

OF

THE NG CLAN OF LING NAHM

NG PEI 伍 被 (Generation 14) was a joong long 中 郎 (official in charge of protecting attendants, guarding the palace doors, and handling supplies for chariots) for the feudal kingdom of Wai Nahm/Huainan 淮 南. During the reign of Emperor Sai Joong/Shizong of the Westerne Hon/Han Dynasty 西 漢 世 宗 (second century B.C.), the king of Wai Nahm plotted revolt against the dynasty. Of all of the king's ministers and advisors, only Ng Pei had the courage to oppose his plans. (See Shi Ji 118.)

NG KING 伍 瓊 (Generation 24) lived during the reign of Emperor Hin/Xian of the Eastern Hon Dynasty 東 漢 獻 帝 (189-220 A.D.). A sing moon how wai 城 門 校 尉 (official in charge of managing the soldiers guarding the city gates of the capital), he raised troops and led them against the evil Doong Jeuk/Dong Zhuo 董 卓 , who had deposed the emperor, installed a young prince as his puppet, and assumed absolute power. Ng King was not successful.

NG CHIU 伍 朝 (Generation 28) lived during the reign of Emperor Mo/Wu of the Western Joon/Jin Dynasty 西 晉 武 帝 (265-290 A.D.). Because he was a widely read scholar, he was summoned for appointment as tai sau of Ling Ling 零 陵 太 守 (ruler of a political division similar to a prefecture) but he did not take up his post.

NG GWUN CHOONG 伍 君寵 (Generation 34), a joon see 進 士 (holder of the first degree in the civil service examination) of the Tong/Tang Dynasty, lived when Empress Mo/Wu 武 后 was ruling China (the end of the seventh century A.D.). He did not serve as an official but remained in seclusion. He prepared a genealogy of the clan's earliest ancestors, from Ng Gee Sui to his own time. Dik Yun Git/Di Renjie 狄 仁 傑 did the calligraphy for the book cover, reading The Ng Family Annals 《 伍 氏 家 ╴ 》 .

NG JING YEE 伍 正 已 (Generation 38) became a joon see during the reign of Emperor Suen Joong/Xuanzong of the Tong Dynasty 唐 宣 宗 (847-859). He served as yueh see joong sing 御 史 中 丞 (vice president of the censorate; its job was to keep the emperor informed on all important matters).

NG KIU 伍 喬 (Generation 40) lived during the Southern Tong Dynasty 南 唐 (tenth century A.D.). He served as hau goong yuen ngoi long 考 功 員 外 郎 (an official working under the Board of Civil Office, in charge of examining other officials).

NG SUN SAU 伍 神 授 (Generation 41) was a suen foo sai 宣 撫 使 (official sent to inspect areas affected by war or disaster). He also lived during the Southern Tong.

NG YUM 伍 任 (Generation 43) served as jeung see 長 史 for Fook Jau/Fuzhou (administrative official in a military district).

NG FAI 伍 翬 (Generation 44) was hawk jing 學 正 (director of studies) for Gwai Jau/Guizhou, Hoh Nahm/Henan 河 南 歸 州 .
